CSANZ NZ Region prestigious award 2016
The Society’s prestigious award, the Cardiac Society – Heart Foundation Overseas Training and Research Fellowship, has been awarded to Dr Janarthanan Sathananthan. On behalf of the Society’s members, New Zealand Chair Paul Bridgman warmly congratulates Janar.
Janar’s fellowship is at St Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver where the funding from the Cardiac Society provides support for Janar to learn and gain experience in structural interventional cardiology.
Janar says ‘Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a new and expanding area within cardiology in which I want to obtain further training. My long-term aspiration is to return to New Zealand with these new skills and be able to pursue my clinical and research interests, whilst serving the New Zealand population.’
St Paul’s is a world renowned centre which specialises in TAVI.
The Cardiac Society’s Charitable Trust in New Zealand has provided two such fellowships. In 2015 Dr Sarah Fitzsimons was the recipient. Dr Fitzsimons has a one year fellowship to work in advanced heart failure management and heart transplantation at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, UK.
