Wellington Hub – CSANZ ASM
NZ members are encouraged to register to attend the CSANZ ASM Wellington HUB on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December. This is a chance to get together, learn together, and update your CPD diary! The venue is Te Papa on the Wellington waterfront. There are sponsored breakfast sessions each day and a reasonably priced dinner planned on the Friday evening. Members may apply for traveling scholarship assistance to attend; the application deadline has been extended to 5pm Friday 20th November.
2021 New Zealand CSANZ Annual Scientific Meeting
Treasurer, Dr Paul Bridgman, and an organising team from around the country, are planning a meeting in 2021. The venue and dates to be confirmed – but not in September in Christchurch as hoped. Watch out for a ‘First Announcement with Key Dates’ from the professional conference organisers later this year.
2020 New Zealand Investigator Award Winners
In case you missed the announcement earlier in the year, congratulations are extended again to all the 2020 Investigator Award finalists. The winners were:
Dr Bernard Wong, Waitemata District Health Board for Transcatheter aortic valve implantation in New Zealand: The first decade. Bernard’s findings were published in Heart Lung and Circulation here.
Ms Melinda Copley, Auckland District Health Board, for Sacubitril/Valsartan (Entresto) in a Multi-Ethnic Population
Ms Lisa Da Rocha, Paediatric Cardiac And Congenital Service Starship Childrens Hospital, for The Starship Cardiac Care Screening Program: A two-year pilot program screening perceived quality of life and psychosocial outcomes for children diagnosed with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).

Fellows confirmed in 2020
The Board confirmed FCSANZ to the following New Zealand members in 2020:
- Dr Ali Hassan AL-SINAN, a cardiologist and electrophysiologist at Waikato Hospital
- Dr Muhammad ARSHAD, an interventional cardiologist at Tauranga Hospital
- Dr Anthony KUEH, a cardiovascular imaging cardiologist at Auckland City Hospital
- Dr Rajesh NAIR, the clinical director, cardiology at Waikato Hospital
- Dr Kat SREE RAMAN, a cardiologist for the Northland DHB
- Dr Peace TAMUNO, a cardiologist and general physician at Rotorua Hospital
- Dr David MCCORMACK, the clinical director of cardiothoracic surgery for the Waikato DHB
- Dr Mohammed ALAWAMI, currently a consultant interventional cardiologist at Manchester University NHS foundation trust
We warmly welcome our 2020 Fellows alongside nine new Advanced Trainee Members and 18 new Members in Nursing and Allied Health positions. The strength and depth of skill of our membership across all aspects of cardiovascular care is good for our patients and our shared purpose as a society: the advancement of knowledge of the cardiovascular system and treatment of diseases.
